There are times when you may need to capture the desktop or a certain portion of it. Maybe for showing a programmer a certain error or for recalling a certain piece of information. No matter the reason, in case you have Windows alone, your only option would be to use the Print Screen function, which captures the desktop into clipboard, and then pasting the image into Paint, the default Windows image editor. This seems like a difficult and time-wasting activity, especially if the user has to capture a lot of images. Not to mention the fact that one cannot capture a certain region or an active desktop using Windows alone.

JShot changes everything, as it's a capturing software that contains a lot of features that make capturing the desktop a piece of cake. But that's not all that's easy, the installation process is also simple. After the software has been installed, the user can launch the program in two ways, depending on what he would like to capture. He can launch the actual program that will automatically capture the entire desktop and will import the image into a built-in image editor or, alternatively, he can launch the tray icon, which places a small icon in the system tray, allowing the user to capture the desktop in different ways, for example, to select a certain region or to take a snapshot of an active window.

Both ways, the captured image can be edited using a Paint-like editor and text or drawings can be added over it. After the editing process is over, one can save the image in one of the many formats supported by the application or he can upload the image directly on ImageShack or other image hosting services, like Picasa or Flickr. He can even upload the image on a FTP server, using the included FTP client.

Thus, one will save a lot of time with capturing and sharing desktop images, especially if he has a lot of capturing to do. Additionally, for saving time, hot keys can be used for capturing different parts of the desktop.

Pros

It can capture the desktop in every way possible, either by taking a snapshot of the entire desktop or of an active window or certain region. Besides that, captured images can be saved on the hard disk or can be shared online using various image sharing services. Furthermore, hot keys can be used for easing the capturing process.

Cons

There is no option for capturing videos of the desktop. JShot is a capturing utility that can capture the desktop in every way possible, for saving it as an image or sharing online.
